Arrive in Gaya. Drive to Bodh Gaya (13 km) and check into your hotel. Take a sightseeing tour of this holy seat of the Buddhist religion, where Gautam Buddha achieved enlightenment under the Bodhi Tree.
The original tree was destroyed by Emperor Ashoka's queen, but a sapling was saved and planted in Sri Lanka by his daughter. A sapling from that tree was brought back to Bodhgaya, where it stands today. You will visit the UNESCO World Heritage Mahabodhi Temple, built adjacent to the site of enlightenment. Additionally, you will see magnificent monasteries established by Buddhist nations including Thailand, Japan, Tibet, Bhutan, and Nepal. Overnight stay at Bodhgaya.
After breakfast, proceed to the Dungeshwari Cave Temples (13 km). Here, Buddha spent years of extreme penance before walking down to Bodhgaya to attain nirvana. After lunch, return to Gaya to visit the Brahmajuni Hill, believed to be the site of Buddha's Fire Sermon. There is a cave and a temple on the hill top offering panoramic views. Return to your hotel for an overnight stay in Bodhgaya.
After breakfast, transfer from Bodhgaya to Varanasi and check into your hotel. Take a short break before heading to Sarnath (10 km away). At Sarnath, Buddha gave his first sermon to his five disciples after attaining nirvana. You will see the remains of the monasteries and stupas built by Emperor Ashoka. In the evening, witness the spectacular Ganga Aarti at the Dashashwamedh Ghat. Overnight stay in Varanasi.
Start the day with an early morning boat ride on the sacred Ganges River to witness the sunrise and the spiritual rituals along the ancient ghats. Return to the hotel for breakfast. After breakfast, transfer from Sravasti to Lumbini. While going to Lumbini, we will stop at the India/Nepal border for Visa and Immigration formalities. Later, check-in at the hotel. In the afternoon, visit the sacred gardens of Lumbini, the exact birthplace of Lord Buddha. Have dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Lumbini.
After breakfast, proceed to Kushinagar. On arrival, check in to your hotel and have lunch. Post-lunch, embark on a Kushinagar sightseeing tour. Visit the Mahaparinirvana Temple, where Lord Buddha took his last breath, and the Ramabhar Stupa, the cremation site of Lord Buddha. Return to the hotel for an overnight stay in Kushinagar.
After breakfast, proceed to Vaishali. This is a very special place for Buddhists as it is where Lord Buddha delivered his last sermon and announced his impending "Nirvana". See the majesty of the Ashokan Pillar, the Lotus tank, and Chaumukhi. On arrival, check in to the hotel. Have your dinner and overnight stay at Vaishali.
After breakfast, proceed to Nalanda, the most renowned ancient university in India. Its name means "Insatiable in Giving," one of the names by which Buddha was known. Continue to the picturesque Rajgir (Rajagriha), the ancient abode of kings surrounded by 5 hills. It was the capital of the powerful Magadhan kingdom ruled by King Bimbisara. The hills and caves here were home to spiritual teachers and Prince Siddhartha himself. Check into your hotel for dinner and an overnight stay in Rajgir.
